Homeroom Messages · school-to-family communication
Reach every family from one place, without a dozen group chats.
School communication is scattered across email, paper notes, and a tangle of group chats nobody can keep up with. Homeroom Messages puts it in one place: messages to families and staff that go out from the same platform that holds the roster, so the right people get the right note.
Email and on-platform messages to families and staff are live today. Live text-message alerts and a school's own dedicated sending domain are in early access; this page says so plainly rather than acting as if either already exists.
One place to send
Send the newsletter, the closure notice, the picture-day reminder, and the permission-form nudge from one platform -- to a class, a grade, a team, or the whole school -- instead of juggling separate lists.
Tied to the roster
Messages use the same roster as the rest of the platform, so a new family is reachable the day they enroll and nobody is left off a list by accident.
Private contact details
Family contact details are kept in our own private system; they are never sold or handed to an outside company, and a parent does not have to install an app to receive a message.
The problem: a dozen group chats
A typical school year runs its communication across whatever channel was closest at hand: an email list one office manager maintains by hand, a paper note that goes home in a backpack and is never seen again, a group chat one teacher started that half the class never joined, a different thread for the team, the grade, the club. Nobody has the whole picture, and a family that missed one channel misses the note entirely.
Homeroom Messages does not add a thirteenth channel to that pile. It replaces the pile with one: messages to families and staff sent from the same platform that already runs the rest of the school, so sending a note is a normal part of the day’s work, not a separate app to remember to open.
One place to send, addressed the way a school actually works
The newsletter, the closure notice, the picture-day reminder, the permission-form nudge -- all of it goes out from one platform, addressed to a class, a grade, a team, or the whole school, instead of a separate list a staffer keeps current by hand in a spreadsheet. A front-office send and a coach’s note to one team live in the same place, sent the same way.
Sending is a normal part of the same workflow a school already runs on -- the platform that holds the roster, the records, and the publications -- not a fourth login on a fourth vendor’s tool that has to be kept in sync by hand. The front office, an adviser, a teacher, or a coach signs in and sends from the same place, addressed to the group that actually needs the note.
Tied to the roster, not a separate list
Messages use the same roster as the rest of the platform. A new family is reachable the day they enroll, and a family that moves grades or a staff member who changes rooms does not fall off a list somebody forgot to update. There is one underlying list, not a parallel contact sheet a staffer re-keys every time something changes.
That also means a message reaches the right audience by construction: addressing a class or a grade pulls from the same roster the front office already trusts for records and the directory, so a send does not quietly miss a family that enrolled last week.
No app for a parent to install
A parent does not have to find, install, and create an account in a separate messaging app to hear from the school. Email and on-platform messages reach a family through channels they already check, and staff sign in to the same platform they already use for records and publications to send one.
Live text-message alerts -- a message that reaches a family’s phone as a text the moment it is sent -- are the one channel not built yet. This page does not claim a parent’s phone already receives a text today; when that channel ships, it will say so plainly, the same way the rest of the platform labels a feature live only once it actually is.
Never public, said honestly
Homeroom Messages is not a public feed and not an open chat room. A message reaches only the families and staff a school addresses it to, through the platform’s own roster -- not a public board, not a search-indexed page, and not a peer chat room where students message each other. There is no open child-to-child messaging on this platform.
Family and student contact details used for messaging are kept in our own private system. They are never sold, and they are never handed to an outside company. A student’s contact information is never made public through this channel; it is used only to route a school’s own message to that student’s own family.
What is live, and what is early access
Messaging gets the same honest labeling as the rest of the platform. Here is exactly where it stands.
Live today
Email and on-platform messages to families and staff, sent from the same platform that holds the roster.
In early access: live text-message alerts
A text that reaches a family’s phone the moment a message is sent is not live yet. This page does not claim it, and does not fabricate a carrier name or a delivery-rate stat for it.
In early access: a dedicated sending domain
A school’s own dedicated address for sending messages is not live yet. Today, sends go out from the shared platform, not a school-branded domain.
How we label it
If a messaging capability is live, this page says live; if it is in early access, this page says that — not “coming soon” theater. A school should never expect a channel that has not actually shipped.
Common questions
Can a school send a live text message to a family right now?
Not yet. Live text-message alerts are in early access. Today, messages go out by email and on-platform delivery to families and staff. This page does not claim a text-message send is live, and does not invent a carrier name or a delivery-rate statistic for a channel that is not built.
Does a school get its own sending domain?
Not yet. A school's own dedicated sending domain is in early access. Today, sends go out from the shared platform, not a school-branded address.
Does a parent need to install an app to get a message?
No. Email and on-platform messages reach a family through channels they already check; a parent does not have to find, install, and create an account in a separate messaging app.
Is there an open chat room where students message each other?
No. There is no open child-to-child messaging on this platform. Homeroom Messages is school-to-family and school-to-staff messaging, not a peer chat surface.
Who can see a message that is sent?
Only the families and staff a school addresses it to. Messages are not a public feed and are not search-indexed -- a message reaches its addressed roster, not a public board anyone can browse.
What happens to family and student contact details?
They are kept in our own private system. They are never sold, and they are never handed to an outside company. Contact details are used only to route a school's own message to the right family.
How is this different from homeroom.today?
Different job. homeroom.today is a public, glance-at-it board of today's announcements and events that anyone checking it can see. Homeroom Messages is the addressed send -- a note to a specific class, grade, team, or the whole school -- not a public board.
How is this different from homeroom.directory?
homeroom.directory is who is at the school -- the living roster and ID cards. Homeroom Messages is what gets sent to them, using that same roster so a send reaches the right people.
Is it free, and is there a checkout on this page?
The core is free to start. There is no checkout and no live charge anywhere on this page.
What this page is and is not claiming
Homeroom Messages is the messaging facet of the platform: email and on-platform messages to families and staff, sent from the same platform that holds the roster. Both are live today. Live text-message alerts and a school's own dedicated sending domain are in early access — not live, and this page never implies otherwise, and never invents a carrier name or a delivery-rate statistic for either. There is no open child-to-child messaging on this platform; the send direction is school-to-family and school-to-staff, addressed through the roster, never a public feed or a search-indexed page. Family and student contact details are kept in our own private system and are never sold or handed to an outside company. This is a for-profit vendor, not a charity, and nothing here is dressed up as a charitable gift. There are no invented message-volume stats, delivery-rate stats, adoption counts, or testimonials here, and no competitor is named. The core is free to start, and this page runs no checkout.
